eBook Reader | Why You Need An Amazon Kindle If You Really Love To Read

eBook Reader. Amazon Kindle 3
The Kindle 3 cannot really be considered a revolutionary device, it is after all a third-generation eBook reader. So while it’s hardly revolutionary, it is certainly the most refined eBook reader ever. Many comparisons have been made to previous Kindle models, so I won’t discuss those here.
This slim, light, and fast device is adorably small. The high-contrast E Ink screen is very easy on the eyes. The Kindle’s display is pleasingly free of glare as it is not backlit. After a day’s staring at an LCD screen, reading the Kindle eBook reader provides a welcome rest for the eyes. E Ink displays are easily readable in sunlight, which is notorious for washing out even the brightest LCD displays. The absence of a backlight does mean that you can’t read your Kindle totally in the dark, but there are several solutions to this – from eBook reader clip-on lights, leather covers with lights built into them, or the good old-fashioned bedside lamp!
eBook Reader | built for those who love to read
The Kindle is not really designed for the itinerant reader, but rather for the type of person who loves to spend hours and hours really getting into a book, who travels frequently and/or has a bookshelf so full of books that there is barely enough room for one more. Kindle lovers appreciate the fact that they can travel with their entire library while only having to charge their device around once a month.
For those who prefer to spend more time watching YouTube videos, playing games and surfing the web, then perhaps a laptop, iPad or Android tablet would be more suitable. These devices are also probably a better choice for parents who love reading to their kids, and the increased interactivity, color and animation really can help children to engage.
eBook Reader | Away from all the flashing lights and distractions…
There are times however when many of us, regardless of how awesome our new tech toys are, simply want to put away our attention-sapping gadgets and curl up with a good book.
If you, or a loved one, love reading full-length fiction or nonfiction books, the Kindle 3 eBook reader makes a fantastic gift, even for owners of tablet devices such as the iPad.
The Amazon Kindle in Australia
Kindle Australia
If you are considering buying an eBook reader and live in Australia, there are a few choices you can make. Several brands of eBook readers are available on our shores, but after thorough research, I ended up buying an Amazon Kindle 3, and am very glad I did.
The Reasons I Chose Kindle
- The words on it’s “E Ink Screen” have the look of real print on page.
- I can read it in full sunlight. Can’t do that with my iPad or mobile phone.
- My Kindle 3 is so light, I can hold it for hours without getting tired.
- I can be lazy about charging it…battery lasts for about a month!
- The Kindle can store thousands of books…this is great because so many brilliant free books are available.
- It can read all my PDF files.
- I can browse the web with it (in Black and White of course).
- I can “loan” my Kindle books to all my other friends who have Kindles…and I can loan their books, for up to 14 days at a time.
- I can make notes and bookmark any page for easy reference.
- The Kindle can read to me (with a slightly robotic voice) when I’m too lazy and it also plays my audiobooks.
Amazon’s Best Seller
Amazon has recently started to ship the Kindle to Australia. The Kindle is Amazon’s bestselling e-book reader, as well as it’s all-time best-selling product!
After the decision to buy my Kindle was made, my next step was to research my options.
I found that the only “official” way to buy one is from Amazon USA, who promise delivery to Australia in under a week (provided they have it in stock).
I did find one or two Australian stockists, but their prices are almost $100 more expensive! I figured they are buying the Kindle from Amazon and adding a big margin to the price – however, they do offer overnight shipping for the desperate.
Fast Australian Delivery
True to their word, my Amazon Kindle arrived on day 6
Many of my friends have asked me if all of the features of the Kindle are available in Australia, such as book downloading, reading PDFs, and Internet access. The answer is yes!
Click here for information about the specific models, but rest assured, the Kindle you buy and have shipped to Australia comes fully functioning, and able to access the entire range of features our American friends get (apart from the minor feature of “blog subscriptions”, and some eBooks and magazines which are limited in distribution to US and other areas).
Accessorize
Don’t forget to buy an Australian power adapter (handy, but optional, as the Kindle can be charged off your laptop or PC via USB cable. You can get one at a discount if you buy an adapter at the same time you buy your Kindle).
Another essential is a Kindle cover or case, which is essential to keep your precious Kindle safe from mishap. The Kindle’s screen does not produce any light of it’s own (which is why it is so easily readable in full sunlight), and so you might want to go for a reading light, which clips on to the Kindle itself. You can even get a nifty case that has a reading light built into it!
After I got my Amazon Kindle, I went back to Amazon and was utterly amazed at the massive range of accessories they have for the Kindle!
Amazon ships Kindles to Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland or wherever else in Australia you might be.
